    How We Ship Your Knives: Choosing the Right Option for You

    When you send your knives to us, we want you to feel confident that they’ll get to us (and back to you) quickly, safely, and without hassle. That’s why we offer three different shipping options — from free standard delivery to fully insured next-day services. Here’s a quick breakdown so you can decide what works best for you.

    Evri Shipping

    Every order automatically comes with free Evri shipping. It’s reliable, simple, and doesn’t cost you a penny.

    • Turnaround is usually 3–5 days once we receive your knives.
    • Limited Tracking is included, as is limited insurance cover up to a maximum of £20.
    • This is our slowest shipping service but offers great value.

    This is a great option if you’re not in a rush and just want an easy, no-cost way to send and receive your knives.

    Royal Mail Tracked 24®

    If you’d like a faster, insured, fully tracked service, Royal Mail Tracked 24® is the best choice, this is the service we recommend for most customers.

    This upgrade is just £12 which covers all 3 shipments (us sending the knife shipping box to you, you sending your knives back to us, and us sending your knives back once sharp). Just select the Royal Mail Tracked 24® option at the checkout and you will then benefit from:

    • Next day shipping - We will receive your knives the next working day after you send them to us, and you will receive them back the day after we send them back to you.
    • Each journey is fully insured for up to £150 for loss or damage.
    • Fully tracked at every step of the way, including a photo on delivery.
    • Drop your parcel off at 130,000 parcel drop off points. Including Post Offices, 24/7 Lockers, & Parcel Postboxes.
    • Flexible delivery options including delivery to a SafePlace and delivery to a preferred neighbour. You have will have full control to change your delivery options before delivery is attempted.
    • Full email and SMS notifications allows you to always keep track of your parcel

    The Royal Mail option is a great balance of speed, security and value — ideal for most kitchen knives, and our favourite shipping service here at Knife Sharp.

    DPD Next Day

    For someone who has some very valuable knives or feel that the £150 worth of cover with Royal Mail option is not enough we recommend choosing DPD. This option offers £500 of insurance cover. While the speed of the service is the same as Royal Mail (we do in fact sometimes find Royal Mail faster than DPD), DPD offers the largest insurance coverage. 

    This upgrade is just £20 extra covering all journeys your knives make. Just select the DPD shipping option at checkout and you will then benefit from:

    • Next day shipping. We will receive your knives the next working day after you send them to us, and you will receive them back the day after we send them back to you.
    • Each journey is fully insured for up to £500 for loss or damage. 
    • Included is DPD's 'Predict & Follow My Parcel' service which provides you with a one-hour delivery window, notified by SMS and email. It also enables you to watch the progress of your delivery on a real-time map, all the way down to a final 15-minute time slot.
    • Multiple options to rearrange delivery at a more suitable time, or to collect your parcel from a local drop off shop.

    DPD is the best choice if you’re sending high-value knives or simply want maximum reassurance.

    So, which one should you go for?

    • Evri (Free): Best if you’re happy to wait a few extra days.
    • Royal Mail Tracked 24® (£12): Great if you want speed and insurance cover without paying a premium. The best option in our eyes.
    • DPD Next Day (£20): Perfect if you want a premium service and your knives to be a secure as possible.

    No matter which option you choose, we’ll package your knives carefully, keep them safe, and make sure they get back to you sharp and ready to use.

    What happens if my parcel gets lost or damaged?

    If you’ve chosen Royal Mail or DPD, your knives are insured (up to £150 with Royal Mail, and up to £500 with DPD). If you’re using the free Evri option, there is just £20 of cover — so for high-value knives, we recommend upgrading.

    Do I need to buy packaging?

    No — when you place your order, we’ll send you a purpose-built knife shipping box. It’s sturdy, safe, and designed specifically for transporting knives. You must use our packaging and cannot use your own.

    How long does the whole process take?

    • With Evri, expect your knives back around 3–5 days after we have received your knives.
    • With Royal Mail Tracked 24® or DPD, you’ll usually get them back the very next day after we have sharpened them.

    Is it safe to send knives in the post?

    Yes. Our shipping boxes are designed for safety and comply with postal regulations. As long as the knives are packed properly in our specialist packaging it’s completely safe to send them.

    Do I need to be home to receive my knives back?

    For Royal Mail and  DPD, you’ll get a one-hour delivery window and real-time tracking, so you’ll know exactly when to expect your parcel. Evri provide limited tracking updates too. If you’re not in, they’ll usually leave the parcel in a safe place or with a neighbour, depending on the service.

    What’s the best option for valuable or sentimental knives?

    We always recommend DPD for high-value or irreplaceable knives, as it includes the highest level of insurance (£500) and the most precise tracking.
