sharpening and repairs

First you need to decide which of our knife sharpening packages best suites your needs, we offer our service in 3, 5, 7, 10, and 14 knife packages. We will then send you our custom designed, reusable, knife shipping box, which includes our safety sleeves, mailing bag and return label. Our shipping box is designed to fit through most standard sized letterboxes.

Insert your blunt knives into the safety sleeves and then into the box, seal up the box with the lowest self-adhesive strip, and place the box into the mailing bag and seal. Finally stick the return label on the outside of the bag. You can send your knives to us in your own time, no rush to get them back to us.

Once ready take your sealed package to your nearest Evri parcel drop off shop which can be found here: https://www.evri.com/find-a-parcelshop#/ Or if you have upgraded to DPD shipping take your sealed package to your nearest DPD drop off location which can be found here: https://www.dpdlocal-online.co.uk/products-and-services/dpd-drop-off.

Once received we will then lovingly sharpen and repair your knives, so they are sharper than new. We aim to do this within one working day and ship them back to you the following day.

All that’s left to do is enjoy your new super sharp knives and leave us a glowing 5-star review.

We DO Sharpen:

Kitchen Knives: Chefs knives, paring/steak knives, serrated knives (bread & steak knives), meat cleavers & butcher knives - both steel & ceramic. High end single bevel and forged knives. Outdoor/ Hobby Knives including pocket knives, hunting & fishing knives. All major knife brands including Wüsthof, Global, Victoinox, Cuisinart, & Buck. Scissors including sewing, kitchen, and general purpose.

We DO NOT Sharpen:

Straight razors and hair-cutting scissors. Micro-serrated blades. Swords & any blades longer than 470mm. Lawn mower blades, DIY and garden tools. Mandolin or vegetable peeler blades - or any kitchen blades without a handle. Pinking shears or scissors without a straight cutting edge. Wavy or ceremonial blades. Daggers, switch blades or any other blade that is illegal to possess in the UK.

It should be noted that we can sharpen a number of these items just not through the Knife Sharp sharpening service. If you have anything listed in the ‘We Do Not Sharpen’ list (apart from illegal blades) that you require sharpening please get in touch with us through our sister company Atlas Machine Knives Ltd.

If you’re not sure whether or not we sharpen your knife or blade, please email us at hello@knifesharp.co.uk and we will let you know straight away.

Often even cheap knives are made of good quality steel but because cheaper knives are mass produced and sharpened with a machine the cutting edge is not very sharp. Once sharpened by our expert knifesmiths they will come back to you much sharper than when you bought them. Sharpening your current knives also helps the environment and reduces waste going to landfill. See our blog post here for more details.

Yes we certainly can, and at no extra cost! However if your serrated knife has little or no serrations left (due to wear from use or over sharpening) we are unable to re-serrate the blade. If you prefer we can convert the knife to a plain edge knife, just let us know when you place your order if you would like us to do this. For clarity we will never convert a serrated knife to a plain knife without first asking you and getting your confirmation. For more details read our blog post here.

Yes not a problem and at no extra cost. We can recreate a new tip by slightly shortening your blade. We’ve seen it all over the years so we don’t worry will we be able to fix it for you.

Yes we can and at no extra cost. If the tip of the blade is very bent, we may have to cut a new tip. They may never be 100% straight again but will still be very usable. Extremely bent knives might come back with slight hammer marks. If needed, we will contact you before we begin the repair.

Yes not a problem and at no extra cost. We will remove all damage from the blade before going on to sharpen it. We’ve seen it all over the years so we don’t worry will we be able to fix it for you.

It is best practice to reduce the bolster to be in line with the blade of your knife, which ensures that the whole length of the blade will be in contact with what you are cutting. A smaller bolster will also make it easier to sharpen your knife at home before your next professional sharpening. If for some reason you don't want us to reduce the size of your bolster, please let us know when you order.

Sadly not, we do not repair handles. We specialize in blade repairs and sharpening only.

It depends on how often you use your knives and what kind of steel your knife blade is made out of. Typically, a kitchen knife used regularly should be professionally sharpened 3 to 4 times a year. A good test to know when it’s time to get your knife sharpened is when you can’t slice easily through a tomato.

We offer a regular subscription service, so we will send you a knife sharpening shipping box at specified intervals so you will always have sharp knives.

Once you have placed an order with us, we will ship out our custom designed, reusable, knife shipping box to you on the same day as you order (next working day if not a working day), that will take about 2 to 3 days to reach you.

You can send your knives to us in your own time, no rush to get them back to us.

Once you have sent them, we will receive them in around 2 to 3 days if sent via Evri or next day if sent via DPD. We aim to sharpen them within one working day and ship them back to you the following day.

Yes 100% free! Shipping in the UK via Evri is free for all the trips your knives will make, so that means you won’t pay for our custom designed, reusable shipping box to be sent out to you, or for the box to be sent back to us with your knives, or for us to ship your sharpened knives back to you.

If you prefer you can choose to upgrade the shipping of your knives to us, and back to you from us when sharpened to DPD shipping. This costs an additional £15. This is a next day service and is insured for up to £500 each way. The first shipping of the box out to you will always be done via Evri.

We provide you with a pre-paid Evri or DPD sticky label to ship your knives to us.

Please note we only ship in the UK and not elsewhere.

Yes they are. If you use the free Evri shipping they are insured for up to £20 per journey. If you upgrade to DPD next day shipping, they are insured for up to £500 per journey. See our terms of service here for more details.

Our custom designed shipping box is designed to put through most standard UK letterboxes, but we can’t guarantee this though. If it will not fit the Evri or DPD delivery person will leave you a card explaining your options to receive your package.

Absolutely! Once you place your order with us, we’ll send you our custom designed, reusable, knife shipping box. Inside will be additional safety sleeves for your knives for extra protection. The shipping box then goes inside a provided mailing bag for ultimate protection, for you to apply the included pre-paid Evri or DPD shipping label on the outside.

To ensure the knife can fit into our shipping box safely the knife needs to be under 470mm measured from blade tip to the end of the handle, the height of the blade should be no longer than 100mm. The vast majority of knives are well under these sizes.

If your blade is longer than the sleeve: Grab some sheets of newspaper or tissue paper and wrap it around the part of the blade closest to the handle. Secure it with masking or duct tape - and ensure the tip of the knife is secured against the closed end of the sleeve.

If your blade is wider than the sleeve: cut open the upper edge of the safety sleeve and insert the blade in with the sharp edge facing the uncut side of the sleeve. Secure the blade with adhesive tape around the entire sleeve and the knife’s blade.

Just to note our knife shipping boxes and sleeves guarantee secure transport through the Evri and DPD shipping systems and are 100% required. If you knife does not fit into the box, sadly we can’t sharpen it for you.

The only way you can ship your knives to us is using our custom designed, reusable, knife shipping box, which includes our safety sleeves, mailing bag and return label. Our shipping box is designed to put through most standard letterboxes. Please do not send knives to us in the post via any other method.
